This A.I. from Baidu analyzes an image to compose music

Researchers have come a long way in artificial intelligence (A.I.) breakthroughs. Today, A.I. is used in self-driving vehicles, language processing, and deep learning. Now, Baidu, the largest internet search provider in China has created an A.I. that's capable of composing music by analyzing an image.

The A.I. is being showcased at an art exhibit in the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. It works by first analyzing an image, where it identifies what's in the image, like the subject(s) and the color of the image. Once it has identified the elements in an image, the A.I. then attempts to assign emotions to the colors seen in the image, like how blue is associated with sadness and yellow for warmth. Having done that, the A.I. then begins to search for musical units that are associated with the subject(s) and colors, before composing the music.
