Microsoft's latest firmwares for current Surface products include important Intel graphics driver update

Last week, Microsoft released an Intel HD Graphics 520 driver update for the Surface Pro 4 tablet and Surface Book laptop. Version 20.19.15.4463 of this driver resolves many “hangs, crashes, and graphics corruptions”, which according to Intel’s own release notes (PDF), include systems hanging when resuming from sleep/hibernation while using WiDi, graphics corruptions in Just Cause 3, Forza Apex, The Witness, XCOM 2, and Ark Survival: Evolved, and various screen rotation problems.

Fast forward a few days and Microsoft has issued a broader set of firmware update (basically, more driver updates) for both devices.

Dated July 14, these are the updates for the Surface Pro 4:

• Surface System Aggregator Firmware driver update v103.1226.256.0: Improves the stability of the keyboard when the device resumes from hibernation or connected standby mode.
• Surface Touch driver update v51.250.106.239: Increases overall stability and addresses issues in touch, pen ink, and barrel button eraser scenarios.
• Intel HD Graphics 520 driver update v20.19.15.4463: As written above, this improves system performance in some applications.
• Surface Pen Settings driver update v12.0.303.1: Improves the stability of the pen settings and prepares for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
• Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller driver update v8.20.0.931: Improves audio stability.
• Intel Smart Sound Technology OED driver update v8.20.0.931: Improves audio stability.
• Surface Button driver update v1.1.662.0: Improves device usability while the device is in tablet mode.
• Surface Touch Servicing ML driver update v1.0.207.0: Increases overall stability and addresses issues in touch, pen ink, and barrel button eraser scenarios.

A similar set of updates is also available for the Surface Book. For those unaware, on June 30, 2016, Microsoft launched the 1TB Surface Book in more markets outside of the U.S. and Canada, such as Australia, Austria, China, France, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Germany and Japan are also set to get the laptop later this month. Singapore and Malaysia, though? No such luck.
