There’s no shortage of marathons and running events in the Klang Valley, which are often held on certain stretches of highways and main roads, resulting them in being closed off for specific period of time. Fortunately, instead of being caught off guard by the unforeseen road closures, Waze will now be able to warn you about them while you’re driving – provided the event organizer takes the initiative to join the Waze Global Event Partner Program, of course.
Partners of the Global Event Program will be able to utilize the Waze Closure tool to specify road closures on Waze’s map before the event is scheduled to take place. Take the Standard Chartered KL Marathon that was recently held, for example. If Standard Chartered was part of the Global Event Partner Program, they will be able to inform Waze of the various roads and highways that would be closed during the marathon, so that Wazers around the area wouldn’t be caught off-guard by the road closures.

The Waze Global Event Partners comes as a blessing to drivers, unless you can memorize each and every single road that will be closed. |
According to TechCrunch, partners will also be able to collaborate with Waze to add turn restrictions, lane reversals, parking lot locations, and additional details about the event, and share them with the 65 million active users on the platform.
As a matter of fact, organizers will even be able to embed a Live Map onto the website of their event to give attendees an idea of the latest traffic conditions. Waze believes that the Global Event Partner Program will be a win-win for partners, attendees, and the Waze community as a whole. Partners will be able to ensure that attendees will be able to get to the venue quicker, attendees won’t have to deal with the frustration of navigating around road closures or getting stuck in traffic, while other Wazers will be duly informed of the roads that they would need to steer clear off.
Organizers can join the Waze Global Event Partners program by clicking here. You can find out if there are any ongoing events that are happening in your area, here. Of course, not all organizers will be willing to join the Global Event Partners program – so If you know of an upcoming local event that will cause road closures, and want to do the entire Waze community a huge favor, you can personally inform the Waze team about it, here.
