Opera Mini for Android now lets you download video and view live cricket scores

The latest update for Opera Mini for Android brings with it updates to the home page and the ability to download and save videos from the web.

Opera’s mobile team has announced that their Opera Mini browser will now be able to download video from Facebook, Instagram and IMDb. You will be able to download video from other sites as well, provided they don’t have a dedicated video player.

We tried using the service ourselves and found that downloading video from Instagram or Facebook was straightforward. You go to the video, tap on the big play button and then decide whether to save the video or just view it. You can also choose the save location. Strangely enough, while we could stream video from IMDb, for whatever reason, we couldn’t save video files from there.

We also found that we couldn’t save videos from Vimeo or YouTube. YouTube does have an offline mode of its own though.

Opera also says that they’ve partnered with Bollywood Hungama and Sportskeeda to provide curated news and real-time cricket updates on the Opera Mini homescreen.

Neither of these features are available on iOS at the time of writing. The homescreen for Opera Mini on iOS only features a newsfeed of sorts.

Opera Mini is a mobile browser from Opera. It’s claim to fame is that it drastically reduces data consumption costs by compressing internet traffic. The browser also integrates an ad blocker.
